Gerard and friend, Nick the pick, groovin in the 60's
Gerard is considered one of the true masters of the Hammond B3 organ in the US today. Born 1947 in New Jersey, Gerard was first introduced to the Hammond organ in the Church. He quickly discovered that jazz legend Jimmy Smith took the Hammond B3 out of the church an brought it to the jazz scene during the 60's. Gerard purchased his first B3 at the age of 18 and started working with bands in New York City. Gerard first joined a band called the Sons of Jesse James, who was handled by Premier Talent Agency, playing clubs in New York City.

While working at the Metropole Cafe night club in New York City, The Sons of Jesse James opened for the famous Big Band Drummer Gene Krupa seen here back stage with Gerard.
Gerard's next band -- The Young Savages. The band recorded for Roulette Records and appeared at New York City night clubs

KELLOGG'S commercial.
One night while performing at New York City's Rolling Stone Night Club with the Young Savages, members of a band called Group Therapy heard Gerard play and recruited him to be part of the band. Shortly thereafter, Group Therapy signed with
RCA Records
and hit the road opening up for
Ike and Tina Turner
Janis Joplin
Canned Heat
Moby Grape
playing the famed Filmore West and in New York the Filmore East as well as the Electric Circus & the Whiskey A Go Go.
Group Therapy also toured Europe opening shows for
The Who and The Nice
( featuring another keyboard legend, Keith Emerson )
in 1963 Group Therapy had two hit singles, the Curtis Mayfield tune,
" People Get Ready "
and a song penned by Gerard entitled,
" Cant Stop Loving You Baby,"

After years of being on the road,
Gerard moved to Las Vegas for 3 years playing the hotels
with various R & B Show Bands.
Gerard then moved back to his native New Jersey. In the year to come Gerard decided to pursue a career as an Independent Artist, first forming his new band "Group Gerard"
There were many groups that Gerard worked with, but one of his favorites was " Double Explosion" with his long time friend Ronnie Hand, who was Gerard's favorite drummer.
Together they played the New Jersey and New York circuits.

Through use of mixing consoles, tape recorders, amplifiers and speakers, Gerard was able to present the back up harmonies, drums, and horn section which he played and pre-recorded in his home studio, thus producing the effect of a 10 pice band. This was enhanced by a dazzling light show which Gerard developed and controlled while performing resulting in the
